ANCIENT ROME

About 387 BC, a city on the Italian peninsula began conquering land and building an empire. That city was Rome. Romulus and Remus, twin sons, were the mythical founders of Rome. The legend tells that they were found and suckled by a she-wolf.

For more than one thousand years, Rome controlled the western world, including Hispania (Spain). After all this time, they left us many things of their way of life and civilization, such as laws, buildings, bridges, art...

Rich families had many slaves and they liked gladiator fightings very much. These fights were held at the Colosseum. Romans also had a lot of gods for everything, even for doors, animals, agriculture or silence.

Civilizations have grown and prospered in Rome for thousands of years, which is why Rome is nicknamed "the Eternal City".

EGYPT

EGYPT, THE PHARAOHS COUNTRY.

It was a civilization that was born in the Nile river, in the 3150 a.C. and finished in the 31 a.C. with the arrival of the Romans.

Egypt was rich thanks to the Nile and the peasant job. Along the Nile there were cities and towns and big temples for the gods and pyramids where the Pharaohs were buried too.

Egyptians liked big feasts with songs and dances. The singers played the harp. They usually sang love songs.

They believed in many gods.

-RA: the sun god.

-HATOR: the god of love, music and happiness.

-AMÓN-RA: the king of the gods.

-TOT: the writing god.

-OSIRIS: he was the earth god but, her brother Set, killed him. Then he was the dead god.

-SET: he was the god of the desert storms and the violent forces of the nature.

-ISIS: Osiris´s wife and the god of the life and magic too.

-HORUS: Osiris´s son. He was the New Egypt King.

-ANUBIS: his work was guied to the Osiris´s court.

THE ANCIENT GREECE

Hello, I'm Iago from 6ºB and I am going to write about Hercules and the ancient greeks.
Greece was a very important country in the mythology. It was the first country in playing the Olimpic Games that it was attributed to Hercules, one hero of the Greek and Roman mythology. It was also a polytheism country; they belive in more than one god, for example: Afrodita, Zeus, Apolo...
The ancient Greece spanned since 1100 a.C to 146 a.C. This country had several periods: the dark age (1100-750 a.C), the archaic period (750-500 a.C), the clasic period, (500-323 a.C) and the helenistic period (323-146 a.C).
Greece has some ancient monuments, for example: the Parthenon, the Santorini, the Epidauro theatre, the Odeon, Acrópolis...

Valentine´s Day

VALENTINE´S DAY

Valentine´s Day is an annual commemoration held on 14 of February. It´s the day when lovers exchange present and love letters.

Celebrating love and affection between intimate companions.
Symbols of Valentine´s Day are:

- Doves

- Heart

- Cupid god

This is one of my favourite festivals because it´s the most beautiful.

HISTORY

The history of Valentine's Day has existed since the third century with the Roman Emperor Claudius II.
The emperor forbade men to marry for going to war, but Valentine was a bishop, followed by marrying in secret lovers. When the emperor found out, ordered to kill the Bishop Valentine on 14 February 270.

The lovers, boyfriends or husbands express their love and affection each other. It´s celebrated on February 14, name day of Valentine's Day. In some countries it is known as the day of the Lovers and others as the day of Love and Friendship.

In Spain this feast began to celebrate in the middle of XX century, with the reason to encourage the purchase of gifts.

EXAMS AND MARKS

We have three evaluations: one in Christmas, another one before the Easter holiday and the last one before the summer. Our teachers give us one envelope with our marks of the term. These are the possibilities of punctuation:

-INS: <>
-SUF: 5
-B: 6
-NOT: 7-8
-SOB: 9-10

Besides, during the school year they give us the marks of the exams that we were doing in the different subjects. We have ten subjects:

-Maths
-Galician
-Spanish Language
-Science
-Religion/Ethics
-English
-P.E.
-Music
-Art
-Ciudadanía

My favourite subject is Maths. We have five daily subjects with classes of fifty minutes, besides the Playtime and Reading.

The worse of the school is the exams. We usually have about two or three exams of the main subjects every term.

And, if we have "surprise exams", worse, they are very difficult and I get very nervous.

HELPING AT HOME

Helping at home is very necessary. Because a lot of mums and dads work outside home. When they arrive home all of us have to help with the housework.

Kids can help: tiding our beedrooms, laying the table, doing the washing up, hoovering the floor, etc.

Making the housework among everybody we'll live more comfortable and happier. It's fair.

2011 is Year of the Rabbit but for Chinese this is not the year 2011 but 4078. The celebrations of the new year start today, February the 3rd, and will end in 15 days time with the Lantern Festival.
Chinese New Year's Eve is a day when Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner.
According to tales and legends, the beginning of Chinese New Year started with the fight against a mythical beast called the Nian. Nian comes on the first day of New Year to devour livestock, crops, and even villagers, especially children. To protect themselves, the villagers put food in front of their doors. Once the Nian eats the food they have prepared, it doesn´t attack any more people. One time, people saw that the Nian was scared away by a little child wearing red. The villagers then understood that the Nian was afraid of the colour red. Hence, every time when the New Year was about to come, the villagers would hang red lanterns and red spring scrolls on windows and doors. People also used firecrackers to frighten away the Nian. From then on, Nian never came to the village again. The Nian was eventually captured by Hongjun Laozu, an ancient Taoist monk. The Nian became Hongjun Laozu's mount.
The fifteenth day of the new year is the Lantern Festival.Candles are lit outside houses as a way to guide wayward spirits home and families walk the street carrying lighted lanterns. This day marks the end of the Chinese New Year festivities.
