Christopher Columbus was a navigator who was born in Napoles and lived in Spain part of his life. He discovered America on October 12, 1492.
That´s why we celebrate Columbus Day or Día de la Hispanidad on the 12th of October.
All the Spanish-speaking countries celebrate this day since 1939. The Hispanic community is made up of all people and nations that share a language and a culture: Chile, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Mexico, ... It is formed by 23 countries, including Spain.
It is a holiday.
