ADVENT CALENDAR
ADVENT CALENDAR
An Advent calendar is a special calendar which is used to count or celebrate the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas.
Today, most Advent calendars are for children. Many take the form of a large rectangular card with many "windows", one of which is opened every day during Advent. In less elaborate calendars, each window opens to reveal an image, a poem, or a part of a story such us the Navity story itself. More elaborate Advent calendars have a small gift concealed in each window, such as a toy or a chocolate item.
HISTORY
The origins of Advent calendar come from German Lutherans, who, at least as early as the beginning 19th century , would count down the 24 days of Advent physically. Often this meant simply drawing a chalk line on the door each day, begginning on December 1. Some families had more elaborates means of marking the days, such a lighting a new candle or hanging a little religious picture on the wall each day.
THE SCANDINAVAN JULEKALENDAR
In Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland there is also a tradition of having a so-called Julekalender (Swedish: Julkalender, Finnish: Joulukalenteri; the local word for an Advent calendar) in the form of a television show starting on the first of December, and ending on Christmas Eve. The Julkalender was first aired on Swedish TV in 1960 with the program " Titteliture ". The first Julekalendar aired in Denmark was Historier fra hele verden 1962.

THOMAS ALVA EDISON
- His name was Thomas Alva Edison, but everybody knows him just as Edison. He is famous because he invented the light bulb, among many other important things.
- He was born in February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio (USA) and he lived there until he was 22, when he moved to New York. He died on October 18, 1931 in West Orange, New Jersey.
- He was a very curious child. He was always asking questions, but he only went to school for 3 months in his whole life, and after that, he learned everything at home. To make money for his experiments, he went to work at age 12, selling newspapers and candy on a train. When he was 16 he went to work for the telegraph office sending messages. Then, when he became an adult, he moved to New Jersey, and he built a laboratory where he made many of his inventions.
- He was a very curious person and he liked to work very much.
- He could work for days and days without a rest, but, because of that, he couldn´t be with his family.
- He liked to experiment with all kind of things and he made 1.093 inventions, but the most important of them all was the light bulb.

CHARLES CHAPLIN
He was famous because he was the best silent films actor all over the world.
He was born in London in 1889, and he lived in the neighbourhood of Kensington during his youth from 1889 to 1910. He died in 1977 while he was sleeping.
His parents were singers and actors and they were very famous in some moments of his live. But his dad left the family because of his alcoholism very few time after Charles birth.
His first performance was when he was 5 years old.
Charles arrived at Hollywood in 1913, when he was 24. During his first year in Hollywood, he
played 35 short films with great success. Since then he went on making a lot of films and in
1929 he got his first Oscar. In 1950 he returned to Europe until his death.
He was not very tall (165 cm), he was very thin and with a fragile appearance.
Now, I am going to talk about his character: He was very emotional, also sentimental and
very melancholic in some matters too.
He could make laugh to people but he couldn't do magic tricks. He liked his bowler
hat but he didn't like to get divorced. He played the violin and finally, his favourite hobbie was to do short silent films.
Here you are one short silent film of this hero of the films:
Aphrodite
Daddy Yankee
IKER CASILLAS
CRISTIANO RONALDO
Leo Messi:)

POPPY DAY
This festival is also known as REMEMBRANCE DAY, POPPY DAY, VETERANS DAY or ARMISTICE DAY because it is traditional to wear an artificial poppy.
This festival is celebrated on the 11th of November in the churches all over Britian.
It´s celebrated in English speaking countries.
It is celebrated to remember those who sacrificed their lives for us during wars.
The emblem of this day is a poppy because this is the first flower that grows in a battlefield after a war. In 1918, MOIRA MICHEL, an American, wrote a poem in which she promised to wear a poppy`in honour of our dead´. This began the tradition of wearing a poppy in remembrance.

Watching with the ones who weep.
You, whose lives, so short in bloom,
Saw such bloodshed, death and gloom.
