THOMAS ALVA EDISON

  • His name was Thomas Alva Edison, but everybody knows him just as Edison. He is famous because he invented the light bulb, among many other important things.
  • He was born in February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio (USA) and he lived there until he was 22, when he moved to New York. He died on October 18, 1931 in West Orange, New Jersey.
  • He was a very curious child. He was always asking questions, but he only went to school for 3 months in his whole life, and after that, he learned everything at home. To make money for his experiments, he went to work at age 12, selling newspapers and candy on a train. When he was 16 he went to work for the telegraph office sending messages. Then, when he became an adult, he moved to New Jersey, and he built a laboratory where he made many of his inventions.
  • He was a very curious person and he liked to work very much.
  • He could work for days and days without a rest, but, because of that, he couldn´t be with his family.
  • He liked to experiment with all kind of things and he made 1.093 inventions, but the most important of them all was the light bulb.
Here you are a little bit of a film about his life, when he discovered the light bulb and the people first saw it on the streets.

  1. Congratulations, Silvia! I am really impressed with your post. You explain many things about Edison and they are very well organized: a short biography, character, achievements, ... And the video shows the emotion of the people when they first saw the electric light. Good job!
